Both these officere, therefore, drew higher sterling salaries than the Aaristant Colonial Secretary at Hongkong, who is single handed.

(b) The salary of Audistent Colonial Decrutary, when compared with that of the colonial Bocretary is proportionately such lower then the salary of other a.airtant heade of depart- monte, when compared with that or the heads of their respect-
